Kitchen Assistant – to start March 2024  

£11.50 ph 

The EarthSpirit Centre is a busy, award-winning venue, situated five miles to the south of Glastonbury. You will be assisting the kitchen manager with the administration of running the kitchen under his direction. 

The job includes the preparing, serving and cleaning away of meals for the attending groups and supervision of occasional kitchen helpers. It also includes following and maintaining health and safety procedures.  Hours are flexible to be arranged with the Kitchen Manager, and they may involve split shifts and include some weekend work and irregular hours. We cook vegetarian food from scratch, with a focus on fresh, colourful ingredients and good presentation. We can also cater for more gluten-free and vegan diets. The work will typically be allocated in shifts staring on a Sunday to Saturday. On a weekly cycle to include two days not catering for groups and taking shifts. 

You will be capable of working under pressure, and to be quick, organised, efficient and consistent in your food preparation. Ideally you will have experience in preparing food for larger groups: 30+. The hours will average between 25-30 hours per week (up to 40 at busy times). Flexible hours possible - to be agreed with the kitchen manager. 

Specific Duties include:  

  • Preparing food to be cooked: chopping, cutting, washing, etc to the highest standard and with reasonable pace.
  • Preparing raw and cooked foods for presentation
  • Cleaning and washing down the kitchen and tables
  • Labelling food and storing food as directed.
  • Adhering to the relevant health and safety protocols of the kitchen and laws
  • Occasionally you may need to deal with enquiries from groups dining or refer to your manager where needed.   
  • Replenishing self-catered food and drinks for groups
  • Ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen and fulfilling ad hoc tasks as allocated by the kitchen manager or assistant manager.
  • Helping with recycling and composting

Required qualifications & experience:  Food Hygiene – Level 2 (with training provided by EarthSpirit for Level 3)

 Has worked in a commercial kitchen

 Full UK Driving licence – or equivalent 

Fluency in English language (proficient in speaking and writing)
